CAVALCADE OF VRANEC WINES FOR 2023
For the first time in the world, an international wine competition dedicated to the local variety Vranec, titled "Vranec Selection by CMB," will take place. This special event, hosted by the Association "Wines of Macedonia," is organized by one of the oldest European wine competitions, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. The event will be held from December 5th to 7th, 2023, in the Veles wine district in North Macedonia and is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, as well as the German Cooperation – GIZ.
Vranec Selection by CMB will assess Macedonian, as well as regional wines of the Vranec variety from the Balkan countries. The goal of the competition is to highlight the best wines produced from this variety with high potential and to promote Vranec and the Balkan wine peninsula worldwide. Vranec, also known as the "black stallion" due to its exceptionally dark color, robust spirit, and strength, will be the main star of this wine story.
The evaluation of the wines will be entrusted to 20 wine judges, critics, and journalists from around the world, each with rich experience in the world of wine. They will be tasked with assessing the wines to select the best Vranec wines for 2023.
"Vranec Selection by CMB" is more than just a wine competition – it is a wine journey through the essence of this grape variety. By maintaining continuity of such events important for the Macedonian wine industry in the future, we promote our country as a competitive wine region worthy of recognition in the wine world. This competition also opens the possibility to celebrate and promote other Balkan regional varieties.
