Seven Wines, One Vision: Discover Bovin at ToA 2025 When the story of modern Macedonian wine is told, Bovin Winery will always be remembered as the pioneer that first dared to bottle its entire production. At a time when the image of Macedonian wine was largely tied to bulk export, Bovin set a new direction, showing that wines from this land deserved to be known for their quality and identity. That bold step became a turning point for the whole industry.
Today, Bovin continues to craft some of the country’s most ambitious wines. Among them, two creations stand out for their uniqueness and character: My Way and Era, both made from Vranec in a style reminiscent of Amarone, though without the bitterness sometimes associated with that style. Here the grapes are left to dry on the vine, a technique known as passerillage in French. The result is richness, depth, and intensity. They are wines so distinctive that I like to call them “Mamarone”, a nod to Amarone, but with an “M” for Macedonia. Both wines, from the 2015 vintage, reached 91 points, and remain the most expensive wines in the country, symbols of ambition and courage. This year, Bovin’s performance on the international stage was once again impressive, with seven of their wines scoring above 90 points. The star among them is the Cabernet Sauvignon Barrique 2019, which earned 94 points and proudly enters the elite Taste of Awards 94+ Club. No less remarkable is the Elix Grand Reserva 2016, a monovarietal Tempranillo that achieved 92 points, a wine of elegance and southern warmth. Behind these flagships, three more wines demonstrated Bovin’s breadth and skill. Ana Maria Rosé 2024, an unusual blend of Sangiovese and Petit Verdot, surprised with its freshness and elegance. Disan Vranec 2019 showed the power and authenticity of the native grape. And finally, Emotion Grand Reserva 2021, a Syrah crafted in a more New World Shiraz style, where juicy concentration and licorice notes dominate over the peppery tones, leaving a long and satisfying finish. Each of these wines scored 90 points, adding further weight to Bovin’s already rich collection. In the end, Bovin Winery continues to stand not only as a symbol of quality but also as a symbol of vision. They were the first to show that Macedonia’s wines belong in bottles, on tables, and in cellars across the world. And with every vintage, they confirm that the journey they began decades ago was not just the right one, it was the only way forward. All of these wines, from the iconic “Mamarone” creations to the award-winning Cabernet, Tempranillo, Rosé, Vranec and Syrah — will be poured together for a rare opportunity at the Taste of Awards 2025, offering wine lovers the chance to experience the full breadth of Bovin’s artistry in a single place.
