A Trio of Distinction

This year’s Balkans International Wine Competition (BIWC) marked a major milestone for Kartal Winery, as three of its wines entered the prestigious Club 90+:

• Carmenere Reserva 2022 – 94 points
  A rare varietal in Macedonia, this Carmenere shows a vibrant mix of cranberry, blackcurrant, and gentle herbal nuances, enriched by layers of spice, tobacco, and dark chocolate. On the palate it is structured and concentrated, with ripe tannins and a lingering finish. A wine that reveals both depth and discovery.
  
  
• Chardonnay Barrel Fermented 2023 – 94 points
  Golden-hued and expressive, this Chardonnay offers aromas of ripe pear, citrus zest, and vanilla toast. Barrel fermentation imparts creaminess and a touch of spice, complementing the wine’s lively acidity. The palate is at once rounded and fresh, finishing with elegance and persistence.
  
  
• Cabernet Sauvignon Barrique 2016 – 90 points
  Mature and refined, this Cabernet Sauvignon displays dark cherry, cassis, and cedar on the nose, enriched by subtle notes of leather and dried herbs. After years in barrique, the tannins are velvety and integrated, giving the wine a harmonious balance between fruit intensity, oak, and tertiary complexity.
