The 17th International Wine and Culinary Festival VINOCOM, the most important manifestation of enogastronomy in the region, began in the festive ambience of the Esplanade Hotel, Zagreb. This year's VINOcom brings together more than 250 exhibitors from Croatia and abroad. The festival is not only an opportunity to present the specifics of the regions but also a platform for networking between winemakers, tourism workers, and culinary experts. Regions such as Slavonia, Dalmatia, Istria, and central Croatia have recognized the importance of joint action, which has resulted in the establishment of regional organizations of winemakers and winegrowers. Croatia's winemaking tradition, along with its wealth of indigenous varieties, positions the country as an important wine destination with the ambition to expand to global markets. Within the framework of the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy for 2023–2027, the Ministry of Agriculture allocates 10.41 million euros annually for the development of the winemaking sector. In addition, the system of protected designations of origin, under which Croatia currently has 18 protected wines, contributes to the global recognition of domestic wines. (source: portal-veterani.info) This four-day wine event traditionally attracts a large number of wine enthusiasts and professionals, as well as tourists who came for the famous Zagreb Advent. As part of Advent in front of the Esplanade Hotel, houses were set up between which the Tikves winery offers its Macedonian wines to visitors until the end of Advent on January 7, 2025. With a large number of Croatian exhibitors, which is somehow logical, you could also find wines from the wider region. 18 wineries from Slovenia, 8 from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 7 from Serbia, while 4 wineries presented themselves from Macedonia: Tikvesh, Ch. Kamnik, Bovin and Ezimit. As many as 15 masterclasses with very interesting topics were held during the event. Professionals had the opportunity to become more familiar with individual producers and the characteristics of certain very precisely selected wine districts worldwide. This certainly gives this wonderful event a strong educational character, which leads consumers in the direction of responsible consumption and understanding of what is being consumed.
