Vranec in the First Three Monovarietal Wine Competitions by CMB

At the 30th Anniversary of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles - CMB competition held in Porec, Croatia, the organizers made an exciting announcement regarding the launch of three new international wine competitions. These competitions will be dedicated to monovarietal and blended wines from carefully selected grape varieties. Producers worldwide who create wines from the specified varieties are invited to participate.

​During the event, Mr. Quantin Havaux, the executive director of the esteemed wine competition, addressed approximately 400 wine judges, consisting mainly of renowned wine journalists and critics from around the globe. He shared the news about the upcoming competitions and also revealed the first three grape varieties for which preparations have already begun. The audiences, particularly the judges from the Balkans, were delighted to learn that one of the chosen grape varieties is Vranec, hailing from the "Balkan wine garden". Vranec is known for its ability to express the unique characteristics of the climate, resulting in high-quality sensory attributes. It offers a wide range of wine styles and has the potential to age in the bottle, developing enhanced aromas and flavors over the course of several decades.

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles – CMB  is a wine competition that has gained immense popularity over its 30-year history, attracting participants and wine critics from all “corners” of the planet. To maintain the focus on quality wine assessment, the competition has naturally evolved into several smaller events. Vinopres, an experienced Belgian company specializing in marketing and communications, manages this prestigious competition. With over three decades of experience, Vinopres collaborates with over 800 renowned wine journalists and critics globally, positioning itself as the primary platform for promoting wines, grape varieties, and vineyards worldwide.
The inclusion of Vranec in the competition portfolio of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles represents a significant global promotion opportunity for wines, regions, and countries associated with this variety. It also paves the way for the recognition of other important wine varieties from the increasingly popular Balkan wine peninsula. Until now, Vranec wines, which are largely unfamiliar to the rest of the world, have not received such attention in any international competition outside the Balkans.

The announcement regarding the host country and date for this event is expected to be made in mid-June 2023.
