The Journey of Château Kamnik at ToA25 In the heart of Skopje, overlooking the northern valleys of the Vardar River, stands one of Macedonia’s most celebrated wineries – Château Kamnik. Known for its bold spirit and uncompromising pursuit of quality, the winery has carved its name into the history of Macedonian wine. It was here that the first Vranec ever with gold medal & the prestigious Regional Trophy for Best Red Wine in Central and Eastern Europe at the Decanter World Wine Awards was born – the legendary Terroir Grand Reserva 2011 – a milestone that opened the eyes of international experts to the treasures of this land. More recently, their Pure Elegance Rosé from Stanushina was crowned the best rosé at the Open Balkan Trophy 2024, proving that the winery’s mastery extends far beyond reds.
This year, Château Kamnik shines again with a collection of six wines that together brought home ten medals, all above 90 points. Each bottle is not just a wine but a story, carrying the spirit of its vineyard and the hand of its maker. The journey begins with the their newest wine Masterpiece Grand Reserve 2022 (92 pts), a carefully composed blend of Vranec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. It is a wine that lives up to its name – powerful yet graceful, layered with dark fruit, spice, and a touch of oak finesse, made to age and to impress. The heart of the collection beats strongest in Terroir Vranec Grand Reserva 2021 (95 pts), a 100% Vranec that embodies the very soul of Macedonian wine. Intense and profound, it is a wine that speaks of depth, authenticity, and the proud tradition of the variety, securing its place among the most celebrated expressions of Vranec ever made. A different kind of charm is revealed in Cuvée de Prestige 2022 (94 pts). Here, Merlot, Vranec, and Cabernet Franc dance together in perfect harmony. The result is a wine of elegance and generosity, with velvety textures and lingering flavors that invite you to return to the glass again and again. With Merlot Single Vineyard 2021 (92 pts), Château Kamnik showcases its ability to let a single variety shine. This wine is all about purity and precision – ripe black cherries, soft tannins, and a long, smooth finish that feels both luxurious and effortless. Adventure takes the stage with Monte 2023 (90 pts), where Montepulciano meets Vranec in a bold, unexpected partnership. Vibrant and lively, this wine surprises with its juicy fruit, youthful energy, and Mediterranean flair – a reminder that tradition and innovation can coexist beautifully. Finally, delicacy finds its voice in Pinot Noir Clos 2022 (90 pts). Rare in these landscapes, the grape is handled with great sensitivity, resulting in a wine of freshness, fine structure, and subtle red berry elegance. It is perhaps the most poetic of the collection – gentle, refined, and quietly confident. Together, these six wines form not only a showcase of Château Kamnik’s mastery but also a celebration of Macedonia’s ability to produce world-class wines across styles and varieties. Bold, elegant, unforgettable, Château Kamnik continues to prove that Macedonian wine is not just a promise but a reality of world-class recognition. And at this year’s Taste of Awards 2025, wine lovers will have the chance to discover these masterpieces in the glass, right where the stories taste the most authentic.
