Prokupac Day 2025 Ten years ago, a small group of Serbian wine lovers decided that their native black grape deserved a day of its own. They called it Prokupac Day, a simple idea that grew into a national celebration.
This October marks the 10th anniversary of that movement. What began as a few passionate tastings in Belgrade has become a week-long festival of wine, culture, and pride. Across Serbia, winemakers open their cellars, restaurants pour their best bottles, and conversations swirl around one name Prokupac. Prokupac is no ordinary grape. It’s the heart of Serbian red wine, rustic yet refined, vibrant yet soulful. In its aromas you can find ripe cherries, forest herbs, and the sunbaked vineyards of Serbia. Once seen as an old-fashioned variety, today it stands for authenticity and revival. The jubilee Prokupac Salon, held in the historic Residence of Princess Ljubica in Belgrade, will gather dozens of producers who helped return this grape to the spotlight. The setting is symbolic, an old royal residence hosting a new generation of winemakers. But Prokupac’s story doesn’t stop at the border. The grape has deep roots across the Balkans and is also grown in Macedonia, where it thrives in more Mediterranean terroir. That makes this anniversary a perfect moment to celebrate together, a toast not only to a grape, but to a shared winemaking heritage that connects our regions. A decade on, Prokupac has gone from forgotten to celebrated. It tells a story of roots and renewal, of a region rediscovering its own flavors and sharing them proudly with the world. So, on October 14, raise a glass of Prokupac. You’re not just tasting a wine, you’re celebrating ten years of passion, heritage, and the rebirth of the Balkan red soul.
